In April 2023, a social media influencer called out Bournvita for having high sugar content and questioned its claim of being a health drink. This sparked a debate and a backlash among the public, who demanded more transparency and accountability from the brand.
Bournvita did not shy away from the challenge. Instead, it took the feedback seriously and decided to change its product formulation. 8 months after the controversy, it reduced the sugar content by 14.4%. It also changed its packaging and communication to reflect its new positioning as a wholesome and balanced drink.
